Find Jobs in the Film Industry

Monday May 4, 2009
The New Mexico Film Office has partnered with the New Mexico Department of Workforce Solutions to form a program that retrains displaced workers for jobs in the film industry. Several workshops have already taken place and have proven so popular that they plan to hold more.

The four sessions that have taken place so far have attracted unemployed carpenters, welders, painters and landscapers. Anyone who has missed out on the initial sessions will have the opportunity to express their interest by contacting the New Mexico Film Office at info@nmfilm.com, providing information on who they are and what they are interested in. Skills transfer well from the building trades to the film industry. Out of work carpenters, for example, can find their skills work well in making props and building sets.

There are currently 10 productions underway in New Mexico and there could be even more productions in the near future. So this might be ther perfect time to contact the film office and let them know you're interested in a job. Since the home building industry is in an economic downturn, you won't want to miss this opportunity.

And if you're not in the building trades, don't despair. Get on the New Mexico Film Office website to find out about casting calls, screenwriting, acting classes and more.
