The Nutcracker Ballet is a holiday tradition. Luckily for Albuquerque, there are a good number of performances of the well loved tale in the area for the 2012 season. The first Nutcracker performances can be seen this coming weekend, as the New Mexico Ballet Company performs at Popejoy Hall, accompanied by the New Mexico Philharmonic Orchestra. There will be shows this weekend and next, but purchase your tickets now, because they sell out quickly.
Next weekend brings Nutcracker on the Rocks to the stage, a beloved local rendition of the classic tale performed by the Keshet Dance Company. The show is one of a kind, complete with wheelchairs, motorcycles and a troupe of '50s dancers.
Other Nutcracker performances feature the Aspen Santa Fe Ballet, the Moscow Ballet and the Ballet Repertory Theatre, which brings their rendition of the tale to the KiMo every year.
Nutcracker Ballet in the Land of Enchantment has a unique New Mexican flavor. Festival Ballet Albuquerque brings an all ages cast to the National Hispanic Cultural Center, with The Figueroa Project providing music in this one of a kind show. Whatever flavor you choose, New Mexican, rocker or traditional, the Nutcracker is a show with staying power.
