Top Ten Places to Propose in Albuquerque

By

Are you ready to pop the question, but want to do it in a place that's really special? Here are a few places in Albuquerque to consider for making that marriage proposal stand out. Whether you're outdoorsy or want to find a quiet, secluded place away from it all, there's a way to create a little romance. Good luck!

1. Albuquerque Botanic Gardens

The ABQ Botanic Garden has many beautiful and private areas in which to propose. The Rose Garden with its roses is a romantic backdrop from late spring through summer. The Japanese Garden with its ponds and peaceful atmosphere makes for a romantic backdrop year round.

2. Beneath a Dome of Stars

The New Mexico Museum of Natural History and Science's planetarium has daily star shows. Propose beneath the digital starfield at an Enchanted Skies show, and your sweetie will think you're out of this world.

3. Bike Ride

Routes Rentals and Tours creates bicycle tours along the river bosque and on to Casa Rondena Winery. It also has romance tours during Valentine season. Or create your own private tour and ride away with the one you love.

4. Carriage Ride

The beautiful setting of the Tamaya Resort works whether it's sunset or not. The nearby Sandia mountains and natural landscape make any outing special. Order a carriage ride and you'll have a private horse drawn adventure into the future.

5. Elena Gallegos

The Elena Gallegos Open Space in the Sandia foothills provides a spectacular backdrop during fine weather. The park's trees, grass and wildlife surround the park's many trails. Take a romantic stroll and stop at the amphitheater to propose beneath towering mountain granite.

6. Old Town Gazebo

Old Town's central gazebo is the site for many weddings. Across from the historic San Felipe de Neri church, the area's rich history and special atmosphere make it a natural for romance. Old Town also has quaint alleyways and patios where popping the question can also take place.

7. Rio Grande

The Rio Grande's flowing ribbon of water is nestled beneath the Sandias and provides a beautiful setting. The Rio Grande Nature Center has acres of trails beneath the towering cottonwood branches that create a special natural canopy. Or visit the butterfly garden and pop the question on a park bench.

8. Sandia Crest

Take a tram ride to the top of the Sandia mountains to make for a memorable event. At sunset, the Sandia mountains turn pink, and shortly after as the night progresses, the city lights sparkle below.

9. Up in the Clouds

Take a romantic ride above the city in a hot air balloon basket and find the perfect moment to ask the question. Balloon companies such as Rainbow Ryders, World Balloons and Sky Span Adventures have exclusive flights where you'll have the basket to yourselves. Celebrate with a champagne toast once you've landed groundside.

10. With a Sip of Wine

Visit the tasting room at Casa Rondena Winery in Los Ranchos, and settle on the patio with some champagne or wine. Stroll the grounds year round, but summer is the best season for this option, when the grapes are hanging on the vine.

Gruet Winery also features a tasting room and a patio where you can sit and relax and enjoy their award winning wines or champagne before popping the question.
