48 Hour Horror Film
The 48 Hour Horror Film project has teams create a horror film in 48 hours. Screening of the films and voting for the best takes place on October 27 at the KiMo Theatre. For 2013: October 18 - 20

Rumble in Rio
The fundraising event pits firefighters against police officers in the boxing ring. See it at the Santa Ana Star Center. Rumble in Rio donates bikes to needy New Mexico kids.

Quintessence with the New Mexico Philharmonic
The choral artists of Quintessence will perform with the New Mexico Philharmonic at st. John't United Methodist Church. Hear Bach's Magnificat and Beethoven's Choral Fantasy. Pianist Amy Greer will be featured.

Pumpkin Chunkin Festival
Enjoy a parade, pumpkins, pie eating contests, a carnival and lots of kid fun. The pumpkin chunkin contests involve trebuchets and long distance throws. It's happening in Estancia.

Amy Tan's novel has themes of love, hope and joy and this adaptation is faithul to the source. See it at Popejoy Hall.

Opera Southwest: Don Giovanni
The fully staged opera with orchestra will be performed at the National Hispanic Cultural Center's Journal Theatre. Wednesday and Friday performances are at 7;30 p.m. and Sunday performances at 2 p.m.

Duke City Marathon
The marathon features events for all levels of fitness, allowing for a greater number of participants. From the 26 mile marathon which requires months of training (if not more) to the Miracle Mile and walks, there is something for everyone. Proceeds benefit the New Mexico Cancer Center Foundation. The post-race festival at the downtown Civic Plaza will feature refreshments, vendors, entertainment, and awards ceremonies.

If you've ever wondered how to set up a garden railroad like the one at the Botanic Garden, this is your chance to find out. The experts from the New Mexico Garden Railroad Club will show you how to set up a model train in your backyard.

Hammers and Hooves Horse Fair & World Blacksmith Championship
Over 40 blacksmiths from all over the United States will compete in making horseshoes. Proceeds from the event go to support Wildlife West preserve.

New Mexico Filmmakers Showcase
The annual showcase plays at The Guild, with creative talent from around New Mexico screening their work The showcase is free and open to the public. A meet and greet with the filmmakers takes place opening night, October 25, at Laru Ni Hati.

Annual Ski Swap
The Sandia Peak Ski Patrol holds an annual ski swap where skis, ski equipment and other snow sports accessories are available for sale. 15% of proceeds go to the Sandia Ski Patrol. The sale/swap is the 26 and 27. If you have something to sell, Public Check-in is Friday, October 25 from 10 a.m. - 7 p.m. Besides the equipment sales, there will be celebrity skiers, pro snowboarder appearances, lift ticket packages, vacation giveaways, and more.

ABQ Hopfest
More than 50 breweries will be on hand to pass out samples of craft beer. Three stages will have a rotating group of live musicians to make whiling away the hours pleasanter still.

Pumpkin-Palooza and Costume Contes at Rio Grande Community Farm
There will be pumpkin cooking, carving competitions, a Pumpking Olympics, pie eating, and a costume contest. Dogs will have their own costume contest. Find out more.

Make a Difference Day
Volunteer with the city's Open Space division to help with maintenance, trail cleanup, graffiti removal and other more. Arrive at 8:30 a.m. promptly to sign in. The whole family can join in. Volunteers will clean up the Piedra Lisa Open Space area.

Zoo Boo
Happy Halloween! The Zoo Boo offers a place for kids to safely gather candy, visit the zoo animals, and participate in lots of Halloween themed fun. This is an extremely popular event, so expect to stand in line. Once the doors open, the line moves quickly; but bring entertainment for the kids. Park and Ride will be available from the Aquarium and Botanic Garden from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
