Happy Holidays

Nothing is more magical than the holidays in Albuquerque. From the glow of luminarias to neighborhood Posadas, the city hums with festivities at this time of year. Check the list below for what's happening with theaters, concerts, and special events. The list is in date order.

November 29
Twinkle Lights Parade
What: The parade features floats, cars and marchers take the two mile trek to officially bring Santa to the Botanic Gardens at this annual holiday event. Families line the sidewalks along the way.
Where: Starts at Central and 3rd; ends at the Botanic Gardens.
Time: Starts at 5:15 p.m.

November 29 & 30, December 6 & 7
The Nutcracker Ballet with the New Mexico Symphony Orchestra
What: The classic tale, staged as a play, features music with the New Mexico Symphony Orchestra and dancing from the New Mexico Ballet Company.

November 29 through December 30 (closed Dec. 24 & 25)
River of Lights
What: A sculptured light show dazzles visitors who walk through the Botanic Gardens to see the ever changing displays. There is also a garden scale Christmas train and free ice skating for children who bring their own skates. A rotating schedule of special activities for kids make this different every night.
Where: The Rio Grande Botanic Gardens. Park in the Heritage Farm lot.
Time: From 6 p.m. - 9 p.m.

Mariachi Christmas
What: Popejoy Presents the Mariachi Internacional Guadalajara with the Ballet Folklorico Paso del Norte to bring the musical and dance traditions of Mexico to the stage.

Nutcracker Ballet

Forever Friends Celebration
What: The City of Albuquerque sponsors a pet adoption celebration that includes music, food, and information from pet experts.

Miracle on 34th Street
What: The classic holiday story is part of the ALT's Family Theater Series.
Where: Albuquerque Little Theater

Luminaria Tour
What: The City of Albuquerque offers tour buses that take you on a sparkling night ride to see the luminarias, those special southwestern lights.
Where: Tours wend through the Old Town and Country Club neighborhoods. Buses leave the UNM PIT parking lot about every 25 minutes.
Time: Departure times are 5:20, 5:45, 6:10, 6:50, 7:15, and 7:40.
Cost: $7 per person; children under 5 are free.

Holiday Photos with St. Nick
What: Kids get their photo taken with Santa. Sponsored by Its About Time Photos.
Where: Historic Old Town

Pojoaque Pueblo Feast Day Celebrations
What: Vespers and processions, and special dances with Matachine dancers.

Scrooge the Musical
What: The classic Christmas Carol rendition with singing and dancing.

La Guadalupana
What: For 84 years, families from the St. Francis Xavier parish erect shrines to La Virgen de Guadalupe in front of their homes to honor her feast day on December 12. The community also celebrates with a neighborhood procession and Matachine dancers. A special exhibit on the event will be housed at the South Broadway Cultural Center.
Where: The South Broadway Neighborhood, in conjunction with St. Xavier parish, and the South Broadway Cultural Center.
Time: After 5 p.m. mass on Dec. 13, and after 10:30 a.m. mass Dec. 14 for the procession, and Dec. 12 - Jan. 5 for the exhibit.

A Very Merry Pops

What: Special pueblo dances and processions.
