Live Screening of Oscars
Sure, you can watch the awards being presented in the comfort of your own home. You might even have planned an Oscar party for this year. But there's something larger than life about seeing the awards on the big screen, and for that experience, you need look no further than the Albuquerque Little Theatre by Old Town.
The Little Theatre will open its doors at 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, February 27. The live broadcast of the Academy Awards will begin at 7 p.m. In addition, there will be raffles and games, prizes and live entertainment. Cost is $10 for general admission, or $35 for access to the VIP lounge. Food will also be on hand.
Luminaria Awards
As part of the live screening, the Albuquerque Little Theatre will honor New Mexicans who have advanced the film industry locally. Honorees will receive their Luminaria Award during the screening ceremonies. This year's honorees will be Debra Anderson, a Santa Fe filmaker; Ann Lerner, film liaison for the city of Albuquerque; Max Evans, local author; Billy W. Ray, veteran film crew member; and Lisa Strout, former director of the New Mexico Film Office.
Screening of Nominated Films
There will also be opportunities to see nominated films in a variety of categories. Both the Guild Cinema and the KiMo Theatre will have screenings for nominated films.
Short Film Nominations
For screenings of this year's short films nominations, both the Guild Cinema and KiMo Theatre will provide opportunities to see the nominees.
The downtown KiMo Theatre has become a buzzing hive of activity this year, and on Saturday, February 26, the short film and animated short nominations will be screened there. The films will include live action shorts, and animated shorts.
Live Action Short Films
Live action short films will be screened from noon to 1:30 p.m.
The nominated films are:
Animated short film nominations will screen from 2 p.m. - 3:30 p.m.
Cost for seeing each category is $10, or cost for seeing both categories is $15. Tickets are available at the KiMo box office or through Ticketmaster.
Documentary Shorts
The Guild Cinema in Nob Hill also offers a showcase of Oscar nominated short films nightly from February 15 though February 24. The Guild will screen documentary shorts February 15 to 17 and animated shorts February 18 through February 20.

Estimated time of screenings is about 3.5 hours. Because of the length of the screening, there will be a ten minute intermission at roughly the 2 hour point.
Animated Shorts
Screenings of animated nominated shorts will take place February 18 through February 20, at 4 p.m., 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. daily. Each screening will last approximately 85 minutes.
Live Action Shorts
The Guild will screen the nominated live action shorts February 21 through February 24 at 4 p.m., 6:15 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. The estimated run time is 110 minutes.
