Southwest Chocolate and Coffee Fest

The annual Southwest Chocolate and Coffee Fest will take place March 23 - 24, 2013, at the Expo New Mexico State Fairgrounds. Focused on coffee, coffee and tea, the festival features cooking demonstrations, sampling, seminars, contests, live performances and chocolate eating contests.

Some of Albuquerque's finest chocolatiers will be on hand, such as Chocolate Cartel, Theobroma Chocolatier and Xocai. Coffee roasters include Fat Boy Coffee Roasters, Java Junction, and Villa Myriam Coffee. Specialty shops will be on hand to lend their expertise.

The New Mexico Expo is located at 300 San Pedro NE. Parking is $5 per car.

Southwest Chocolate and Coffee Fest 2013 Schedule

  • Saturday, March 23, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Sunday, March 24, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

    Tickets
    Adult general admission, $10
    Seniors (60+) and students, $8
    Children 12 and under are free
    Tickets can be purchased online or at the door.

    What to Expect
    There will be lots of coffee, chocolate and tea vendors exhibiting their products. Sampling is encouraged, as are purchases of favored items. Limited seating is available. Pick up a bag upon entry so goodies don't get lost.

    Culinary Stage
    There will be cooking demos by the Santa Fe Culinary Academy, as well as baking contests with cash prizes. Expect the same fun chocolate eating contests you've seen in the past.

    3:30 p.m. Coffee 101 with Villa Myriam Specialty Roasters

    Contests
    For 2013, there will be a Barista latte art contest on March 23 at 4 p.m.
    Baking contests will have categories on best chocolate cookie/bar; best chocolate cake/cupcake; and best young baker. Cash prizes will be available.

    There will also be a Kids Zone stage, where there will be entertainment, singing, dancing and games for the kids.
