The Day of the Tread race in Albuquerque brings together fun and fitness for a day of costumed marathons, half-marathons, biking events and walks that benefit local charities. It has become an annual Albuquerque Halloween tradition, bringing together Halloween costumes and Day of the Dead elements for a unique day of fun and fundraising.

The Race

Day of the Tread takes place Sunday, October 16 in 2011. The races begin at the Embassy Suites Hotel and Spa at 1000 Woodward NE. The Embassy is located off of Lomas, just west of the I-25 frontage road. For 2011, a full marathon has been added to the lineup of events. Buses will take full and half day marathoners to a race location at Mesa del Sol.

Day of the Tread

The Day of the Tread is for anyone who likes to bicycle, run or walk. No matter which event you choose, there will be pre-event motivation fun and a post-ride celebration that includes lunch. The course will be pumpkin-lined, and expect to hear music and see themed aid stations and lots of crazy contests. The event theme is "Eat, drink and be scary!"

Costumes aren't mandatory, but everyone is encouraged to join the fun. There will be prizes for best human costume and for best bike costume.

All money raised for Day of the Tread goes to Carrie Tingley Hospital Foundation and Casa Esperanza.
