Locate Albuquerque Red Light Cameras

By , About.com Guide

Since 2004, the City of Albuquerque has had an automated red light camera program in place at intersections with a high incidence of violations. Cameras take snapshot photos of cars that have either run a red light or sped through an intersection. License plate numbers are traced to their owners, who are subsequently fined.

Red light camera installation has been controversial, with some groups contending they are illegal. Whether residents agree or disagree with them, however, cameras are currently in place. Fines are costly. Running a red light costs $69, and speeding penalties are $74-$75.

The City of Albuquerque contends it instituted the camera program to create a safer driving environment. The ultimate goal, it notes, is to prevent crashes and save lives.

Twenty intersections have automated red light cameras. Keep their locations in mind as you go rushing out the door.
